Blue Town - Colour Mining

Colour mining is a spectrum series matching seven colours to the seven continents.

The creation of visual artist Lucy Steggals, each place is selected because it either has the colour in its title or has a strong relationship with a spectrum colour. The purpose of colour mining is to explore with local people, through colour, their place and to create an alternative archive and devise ways to re-distribute the colour within the environment.

Colour Mining – Blue, is a portrait of Blue Town, a suburb of the town of Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, created from data (photographic stills, audio recordings, film clips) gathered in Blue Town, during Feb/ March 2012.

Lucy invited Quest Ensemble to take the sound clips from her interviews and create a sound score to accompany her film. We also created headphone pieces based purely on the interviews with inhabitants of Blue town.
