An interactive installation combining sound, music and visuals, created in collaboration with fellow musician Filipe Sousa and visual artist Lucy Steggals. Commissioned by Arch Ox and Oxford University Archaeology department and working with a group of volunteer archaeologists, we used the Matrix (inspired by the Harris Matrix) as a starting point to explore how an archaeological dig is tracked, recorded and logged. We investigated and recorded visually and through sound the unique momentum/ rhythm and ritualistic qualities of archeological activity. By setting parameters, we chose 25 key words that the group felt reflected these activities.
We responded by collaboratively translating these words and the collected data into an immersive environment with the function of giving the audience a feeling of these multi
layered processes in a non-linear way. The exhibition was preceded by a short talk in which we explained our processes, choices and connections to the archaeological dig.
