"COMPOSITIONALLY COMPLEX, INVENTIVE IN TECHNIQUE AND WONDERFULLY AMBIGUOUS IN TONALITY, THIS WAS A JOY TO BEHOLD" - Jazzwise 2015 Tommie Black-Roff - Live@Vortex Jazz Club
"THE INTERPLAY OF MUSICAL LINES IS DEXTROUS AND INTRIGUING" - Matthew Wright, London Jazz news
An ongoing collaboration with violinist - Preetha Narayanan and pianist - Filipe Sousa. Playing, improvising and composing together since completing the MMus in Leadership at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2009, Quest Ensemble strive to bring a fresh take to the classical piano trio format, collaboratively create original work with a distinctive sound that seamlessly blends improvisation with devised composition.
Intrinsically contemporary in approach, Quest Ensemble inhabits a lyrical sound world somewhere in the gaps between chamber, jazz, folk and 20th Century classical music. The original compositions paint a musical landscape filled with lyrical melodic lines, rich harmonies, and interwoven rhythmic counterpoint.
As well as performing regularly around London, in venues ranging from Vortex Jazz Club, Union Chapel, Wilton's Music Hall to Southbank, their work as a trio encompasses creative education projects, site- specific installations and sound commissions for dance and visual arts.
The debut album Footfall was released in May 2014. 2nd album in the making to be released in 2017
